The castle

A bit of history

Near the forest of Orleans, in the village of Courcelles-le-Roi, you will find this intimate château. This old castle, founded between the 11th and 12th centuries, depended on the Boiscommun's castellany, belonged to the royal domain and was a place of pleasure and relaxation for the Court of France, when the King came to hunt in the forest of Orleans .

This castle was destroyed twice during the Hundred Years' War: the first time in 1358 and rebuilt in 1389 by Jean de Bracque, then again ruined in 1424 and rebuilt around 1450 by Georges de Brilhac.

This castle was made famous by the stays of several kings of France since its creation. King Louis IX, known under the name of Saint Louis stayed there in 1247, on the basis of some fragments of manuscripts speaking of his passage. King Charles VIII received Florentine ambassadors there in 1493. In August of the same year, his wife Anne de Bretagne, Queen of France, gave birth there to a boy named François who lived only a few hours.

Nowadays, the Château reports a partial renovation on the ground floor level thanks to the fantastic work done by Mr. and Mrs. Capitaine over the last 20 years. After centuries, the Château de Courcelles-Le-Roi continues to live and gradually regains its former greatness...
